Wirral Vets is an independent practice (no corporate group mentioned) with “over 50 years” of providing veterinary care, and operates across three practices. The website describes both preventative and curative healthcare for companion animals.
From the latest reviews available, owners most often describe routine handling and appointments: nail/claw clipping is mentioned several times, as well as patient, low-stress handling for nervous pets (including a rescue greyhound and two frightened cats). There’s also mention of short-notice appointment availability and helpful phone communication—but this sits alongside serious negative accounts, including a complaint about being refused an in-person visit for an ill dog during lockdown and a separate complaint about a nail trim going wrong and subsequent invoicing/rudeness.
4.4 stars from 145 reviews. Experiences in the latest written reviews range from very positive handling of anxious pets to serious complaints about access to care and a nail-trim incident. “”

I would give them zero if it was an option. During lockdown a receptionist & vet both refused to see my very ill dog I had explained she had eaten something off the ground while I was walking her . Which resulted in her vomiting numerous times a day and she refused to eat anything. She lost a drastic amount of weight I called them everyday and pleaded she needed a vet. I was given the option of a (charged)phone consultation which was completely pointless as I'd already spoken briefly with a vet and explained all the symptoms & issues. Once again I was refused and told that they are only booking in emergency cases. Well my dog sadly passed away the same week leaving me , my family & friends heart broken . I was left feeling totally distressed after the whole situation . I have another dog who I refuse to take to that vet and my family & friends no longer go there .

We have a rescue greyhound who is nervous of people he doesn’t know, but the vet in Livingstone st Birkenhead is fantastic with him , hence our dog will let him do anything to him , and doesn’t try and get away, the vet is gentle with him and he gets a treat when he’s finished , the vet sees him on time and takes his time and answers any questions we may have I strongly recommend him

Wonderful people. Our two cats are very frightened of new people. The vet was so patient and knew how to deal with them. The nurse was also brilliant. Both cats dislike having their claws clipped, but where fine with the vets nice way with them

Always really helpful on phone and often have appointments available at short notice if needed. Both my rabbits have been treated well for both scheduled and unplanned visits, and always come home better for it. Vets are never cheap obviously, but so far seem most reasonable prices locally, from the little research I've done to compare for things like operations and vaccinations. Different vets on different visits, but all the staff we've met so far have been friendly and professional.
